When we talk about tea these days, most of us quickly and instinctively think of tea bags and we are often asked about the best way to prepare loose leaf infusions and what utensils to use.
There are 3 simple and practical tools that we usually recommend when preparing a loose leaf infusion:
- Infuser
The infuser is one of the most popular and widely used tools for preparing loose-leaf teas and herbal teas, and is the ideal accessory when preparing a single cup or when preparing small quantities of tea. It is available in various shapes and materials, from stainless steel to silicone. We recommend a stainless steel infuser, as other materials may release microparticles of plastic when in contact with hot water. The infuser should also allow enough space for the leaves to expand, ensuring a more complete infusion.
How to use:
- Place a teaspoon of the leaves in the infuser.
- Place the infuser inside the cup or teapot.
- Add hot water (follow the ideal temperature for the type of tea).
-
Let it steep for the recommended time and remove the infuser.
- Teapot with Infuser
If you want to prepare larger quantities of an infusion, for example for several people, a teapot with an infuser is an elegant and practical way to do it. Our favorite is the glass teapot, which allows you to watch the infusion being prepared.
How to use:
- Add the amount of leaves corresponding to the volume of water (usually 1 teaspoon per 250 ml).
- Insert the leaves into the infuser built into the teapot.
- Pour hot water over the leaves and cover the teapot.
- Leave to infuse and serve directly, without needing to strain.
- French Press
The French press, famous for making coffee, is also a good tool for preparing loose leaf infusions. Ideal for more intense infusions, it allows the leaves to have space to release all their flavor.
How to use:
- Place the sheets directly on the press base
- Add hot water over the leaves.
- Place the lid on without lowering the plunger and let it infuse for the recommended time.
- Press the plunger slowly to strain out the leaves and serve.
Clean the press thoroughly before using it for tea, especially if using it for coffee, to avoid mixing flavors.
What is the Best Method?
All of these methods can be used to prepare an infusion. The choice of accessory that we will use depends on each person's preference and the occasion.
The infuser is perfect for individual cups and practicality, the teapot with infuser is ideal for sharing moments with friends or family and the French press is a versatile solution that allows you to extract more intense flavors.
Regardless of the method you choose, the important thing is to enjoy the unique aromas and flavor that only a loose leaf infusion can provide. Try all three methods and find your favorite!
